Right Between the Two Wheels!

Another afternoon bike ride with my husband presented itself with material for a blog entry.

I imagined it this way.

I must get across…I must!  The beady eyed rodent stood at the pavements edge; it’s little heart beating faster than normal, whiskers twitching and feeling the sense of the air as large bodies passed by at differing rates. I imagined the squirrel somehow calculating the moment when he might scurry at full speed and make his way across the bike trail….ready….steady now…. GO!  Crazed, with no option of turning back he dashes across the path!

In reality, I almost slammed on my breaks in startled reaction as the plump squirrel came out of nowhere and flew across the paved path as David and I, at a pretty good clip, were simultaneously riding by.  Right between the two wheels of my husbands bike, the rodent sighted the breach and somehow made it through to the other side in perfect rhythmic timing.

I let out a “screlp” (kinda a screech-yelp) and remained amazed at the perfect timing.  I thought for sure one of us was going to squish the poor critter!

In the flash of the moment, I was reminded of God’s perfect timing.  Romans 5:6 tells us:
“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” It was always a part of God’s plan for Jesus to come to earth and die for us and it happened at precisely the right time in history; God had it in perfect rhythm with all of time as He appointed.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us: ” There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: ”    Along the way, we  experience many things in our lives and many things have their right time to take place.

I thought of how I often want to rush things.  I often become frustrated when I cannot do things at a particular time as I had planned.  This is nonsense.  I need to trust in God’s timing for things – not my own.  For surely I will get squashed under the tires if I rush on ahead.  He knows all the interruptions and distractions that keep me from my own plans. Our Lord is a God of perfect rhythm and timing and what a burden is lifted when I relax and rest in His ways. With my eyes on Him I can leave the execution of timing to him.  For, at just the right time, He will line things up and allow me proper alignment for everything to happen in its appointed time according to His plan.

So I now say to myself, relax Sheryl.  Relax my friend.  God’s got it.  He arranged it in His time to save us and He is arranging all things in our lives to occur at the right time too.  We do not need to be the crazed squirrel looking for the breach.
