Said of Mary,
“…and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger,…”
Using a little creative license, it might have been easily said,
“She wrapped him in a full suit of shiny armor.”
Can you imagine?
Comical you might say — picture this: a new manger set offered —
young boys everywhere would love it!
Jesus, wrapped in armor!
Yet, this is more truth than imagination. For Isaiah 9:6b continues: “And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (boldface my emphasis)
Scripture here impresses that Jesus, that little Baby Jesus in the manger, was born as Mighty God.
As a teacher of children, my voice bellowed these lyrics with full animation and body motion more than once (listen if you like): “My God is so big, so strong, and so mighty there’s nothing my God cannot do….” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PO2CyTZEzo
Childish mantra? Yet such truth gives confidence to the one who sings with belief!
Baby Jesus, Mighty God, is able to do everything; He owns everything because He created everything. It is all under His domain. Truly He IS Mighty God and rightly was prophesied to be called so.
Even more. More than all this stated in the children’s song,
Baby Jesus, Mighty God, wrapped in armor,
owns power as undefeated warrior!
A warrior that stands to protect and reign over in power and might.
Jesus did this at the cross. He, sacrificed; crucified. Death came by spilled blood. And the story climax was reached on that third day when the stone was rolled away and Jesus, the Baby grown man, arose from the dead and ascended into heaven.
There is nothing He cannot do.
Here He claimed the battle victory. Sin’s power, Satan’s weapon, was defeated as Jesus made way for us to be forgiven of sin, washed clean, and able to enter through the gates of heaven and into eternal life.
Mighty God is the Gospel.
Whatever plagues you…whatever battles you are facing…trust and know that Jesus fights for you; the battle is His.
He is your prophesied protector and encompasses all power and might.
But that is not all of it!
Jesus, wrapped in armor, awaits the final battle.
One day is coming, and Jesus, called Mighty God, will return and claim His own, and the evil one will forever be drowning in the Lake of Fire; Hell.
Yes. I do declare.
Jesus, wrapped in armor
gives vision to the prophesied Mighty God.
