Que Sera- Sera

Those of you who know me, might know…that I like to have control.  Okay, okay, you can stop snickering and chuckling.  I am not sure if that was always true of me however; having nine children to care for might have had something to do with my need for “control(!).”

Those of you who know me, might not know that I love to clean to LOUD music:  Classical Beethoven, Jars of Clay, DubStep….or the Unforgettable Fifites!  Recently I have been in the fifties and lovin’ the simple lyrics and “fun” of the beat.

Those of you who know me, might not know that I often find myself referring back to Matthew 6…over, and over, and over.

Yup………… That DO NOT WORRY passage.

God has allowed some pretty challenging things into my life over the last 24  years that I have acknowledged Him in my life.  From the day-to-day struggles to the horrific events of disease and death…..why?

As I age and grow; yes – age and grow – not grow and age…(there is a difference in the order)…

I believe that God allows hard struggles so we will rely on Him.

He does NOT want us to worry.

He wants us to trust Him.

He does NOT want us to worry.

He wants us to pray.

He does NOT want us to worry.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4: 6 – 7

1. Do not worry

2. Pray: tell God what you need.

3. Thank God for all He has done: look back in your life and remember how He has provided & sustained before.

THEN… we will have His peace.

Are you worried about something?

I am too.  Will I be able to pay the overdue bills this month?  Will my husband’s tires keep air in them and not blow out before we can get new ones?  Will my health hold out?  Will my children find Godly spouses?  And on, and on, and on my concerns go.

That is why I love the Fifties.

I love to sing along with Doris Day’s “Que Sera-Sera”

(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdhAfMor9BM) — the key phrase:

“Whatever will be, will be….the future is not ours to see.”

Now, I do not know if the writer of that song had any scripture or Godly thought in mind…but it is a great reminder for me!  I do not know the future — only God does.  And since He holds the future, I need to trust Him for it.  Knowing He loves me, I can sing “Que Sera-Sera”…whatever will be, will be…and in God’s hands, it will be good, it will be doable…and in the end it will be blessed because He has my best interest in mind.

Got a worry?

Go pray…give thanks…and then,sing with me – “Que Sera-Sera”

You and Me, We are the Cookies

It takes just a few moments…

I believe the Holy Spirit speaks to us all the time.  It isn’t always a mystery.  Profound things are revealed, no doubt — for the Word of God is often too big for our feebly and finite minds.  Wisdom and revelation comes to us when we are in need.

And yet, sometimes it is just a simple word picture…

A concept….

A metaphor to remind us.

To remind us of WHO God is.

The Holy Spirit uses our everyday common and speaks into the things that are familiar.A Saturday passing of time….and I heard the Holy Spirit speak to me.

You and me, we are the cookies.

We are similarly formed, plain, and naked.  Some of us are smooth edged, some of us have dust on our feet, some of us are broken and repaired, and some of us are burned a bit…all of us similar and all of us different.

GOD is the Creator; He made us.

Blessings are the specials and sweets added onto our lives.  Carefully placed, thoughtfully sprinkled, always given in just the right amount as each of us uniquely needs.

GOD knows; He knows what we need and He blesses to make our lives beautiful…and yummy! GOD is the one who blesses.

Why?  Why does God bless us?

Psalm 67 tells us why:

“May God be gracious to us and bless us, and make his face shine on us, so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.”

 May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.
May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you rule the peoples with equity
and guide the nations of the earth.
 May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.

 The land yields its harvest;
    God, our God, blesses us.
 May God bless us still,
so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.”

Yes. So we can shine, so we can praise, so that His work and plans and gift are known…..and so all will fear him.

We are blessed to be enabled to be a blessing to others.

You and me, we are the cookies.

Have you heard the Holy Spirit recently? Can you hear Him in your everyday common and familiar? Bend an ear and listen…..

And await the blessings!

The Big “C”

The Big “C”.

Otherwise known as C-A-N-C-E-R, first came into my world as a young teen. A trip to the movies was still a novelty.  I think Terms of Endearment was one of five movies I saw in the theater in my entire childhood years; Snow White, CaddyShack, Ferris Beuller’s Day Off, and On Golden Pond were the other four.  Because I saw so few, movies back then had quite an impression on me.  Terms of Endearment left a clear picture of what cancer was like: HORRIBLE with a capital H; pain, suffering, vomit, weight loss, desperate crying, weakness, and sure to end in death.

Cancer is not a modern day disease.

“Some of the earliest evidence of human bone cancer was found in mummies in ancient Egypt and in ancient manuscripts dates about 1600 B.C. The world’s oldest recorded case of breast cancer hails from ancient Egypt in 1500 BC and it was recorded that there was no treatment for the cancer,…” (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2927383/)

Remission, temporary cure of cancer is a modern day accomplishment. Yet, cancer still remains to be the second leading cause of death for humankind.

One who lives after the diagnosis, surgery, and toxic chemical treatment of cancer is dubbed a “SURVIVOR.”  I am one such person. Although, I would say that I am not really a survivor…because I am daily S U R V I V I N G the ravages of the treatments in my everyday life. Cancer cells are gone – but side effects remain. Surviving is ongoing.

 I am here.

Sustained and upheld; given daily breath: I breathe. Love and comfort have been mine.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3 &4
