WORD – Part 1: The One Reason the Baby Came

December 25th has come and gone, again; focus was: the baby in the manger.

January 6th, the last day of the traditional season of Epiphany has passed, again; focus was: the wise men visiting that baby.

Holidays concluded.

Gifts are used or exchanged and decorations packed up for another year to wait in the attic.

Winter cold is set in and we move on with the routine of the days.

But do we remember the WHY of it all?

The ONE reason the baby came?

“I have come that they may have life,

and have it to the full.” John 10:10b NIV

Rather than a resolution, it seems to be the trend to choose a WORD for the New Year…my WORD?

Jesus says: He came.

He came to earth as that baby in the manger. He grew and became a man and loved on people, as it is recorded throughout pages and pages of the Bible.  He was mocked and beaten and pierced and hung on a cross to die. He was wrapped and buried and put in a tomb. He broke out of that tomb and showed himself to many and then rose up into the clouds to be with the father in heaven, where he is alive and waits for the Father to tell him to come back and get His people..

Most of my readers know this.

But why did He do it?

Jesus says: so, “that they may have life.”

Yeh? So? We, are the they, and we all have life right?  We are breathing aren’t we? Basic of all basic, I guess that is so…yet, there is more.

“and have it to the full.”

or in other translations:

“to give them a rich and satisfying life.” NLT

“and have it abundantly.” NASB

…what does this mean?

It means that Jesus did all He did so that we could have a FULL life with purpose and have life eternally.

THAT is the one reason the baby came.

Do you have life to the full?

Read and follow my posts in the days to come and I will share how we can have this LIFE to the full.

It is HE

His muscles rippled with brute strength and sturdy beauty.

Not an ounce of fat to be had; Shoulders broad, his arms outstretched in arc form to both bear and carry the entire sphere!

It is he – Atlas.

The Greek,Titan god of endurance, astronomy, and bearer of the heavens, carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.  According to Greek Myth, Atlas kept it all going.  The Greeks had it kind of right, but mostly wrong.

This is the finite and puny image I conjure up in my mind when I try to fathom what is meant by “and the government shall be upon his shoulders.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Truth be told,

it is HE,

Maker of the heavens and the sphere (earth) who keeps it all going.

Jesus keeps the universe in motion. It is HE who has authority; all authority is His.  King of kings and LORD of lords.  So hard to imagine with our foggy sight.

The baby born….the son given…to us, also was given ownership of all authority – was, and IS today…and will be forevermore.

“…and the government will be on his shoulders.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Imagine this on your birth announcement! No wonder Mary pondered…

This is a fearful place, this earth.  Many fear where this world is headed as news reports drone on about the “governments” all over the world that are failing, struggling, and warring.

And yet, God is in control.

Jesus has been raised up far above all – everything!

“…far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.  And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything….” (Ephesians 1:21& 22a)

“He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17)

It is not Atlas. Or any other fanciful myth or imaginings.

In the dark, dank stable, lying in a feed trough, a baby born,…a son given” (Isaiah 9:6) — it was HE, Jesus who was bestowed with the government upon His shoulders.  Power and authority is His, even now.  We need not fret or be filled with worry-ful concern for this earthly sphere.

It is HE!

This baby King holds it all together!

Imagine — all this wrapped up in the Gift!

Look not and see a helpless babe this Christmas, but look and see the King of kings holding all authority in heaven and on earth and claim Him as your own.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83huFAMOte0  (turn up the sound & view this)

Come and worship Christ the newborn King!

The Fix to the Ugly “S” Word

I had the awesome privilege of announcing that FIVE times!

There is nothing quite like the excitement of announcing the birth of a baby.  Adoration and the full-est feeling of hope springs forth in the wonder of it all.  As a mom, you cannot hold that newborn close enough; there is a certain magnetism that occurs.

Have you ever tried to pry a newborn from a new mother?  It is exceedingly difficult!

And so, in Isaiah (9:6 KJV)), I find the phrase,“… a child is born, …a son is given;”  hard to swallow.

Now what kind of birth announcement is T H A T?

Here’s the new baby, now let’s give him away?

Yet, this is just what God’s plan was.

Again, it always starts at the beginning Genesis 3: 13 (NIV):

Then the LORD God said to the woman, “what is this you have done?”

The woman said, ” The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

This is the confession of sin entering the world.  The male and female that God created chose to turn away from Him. The willful heart gave in to deception and temptation and sin entered in.  The ugly “S” word, S – I – N, remained.

Sin remains.  It taints every human heart.

Sin cannot exist in the presence of God.  Humankind was therefore separated from God.  And like a new mother and her newborn, separation could not continue to be.  And so, God had a  plan.  From the beginning He had a plan.

Jesus; the baby born,… the son given, was the fix to the ugly “S” word.

After Adam and Eve realized their failure and their sin filled-ness, they attempted to cover it all up; they sought to hide.

“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.”

(Genesis 3: 7)

Totally inadequate.  Fig leaves could not cover up the wrong.  Skins of animals could not cover up the sin.  Sacrificial blood of animals could not make the sinful heart clean.

Only God the Father could make the way.

Only God the Creator could design the perfect plan of redemption.

And He did it through the baby, Jesus.

Jesus, fully God and fully man, One without sin.

It was His blood that had to be given.

So there we have it!

…”a child born”….that’s Jesus.

…”a son given”….that’s Jesus.

Jesus came to earth to be born, and more importantly was born so He could die. On a cross His blood was poured out.

He was ultimately G I V E N.

It is the only way we,

you and me,

all those before us and after Adam and Eve,

and all those yet to be born

are able to enter into the presence of our Creator; our Father.

For us and to us,

Jesus; the baby born,… the son given, IS the fix to the ugly “S” word.

What an awesome GIFT!

“To God be the Glory, Great things He has done….” (turn up your sound & sing along!)

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”  (Isaiah 9:6)

More to come….
