What is it that Fills your Darkness?

Accept support.  Stick to the plan.  Stay vulnerable.  Trust God.

BUT

Even still…Darkness seeps in like fog curling and swirling, pushed by the wind, wrapping it’s tendrils around the anchors yanking them up and out. Doubt, and fear, and tangible offenses like nausea, burns, nosebleeds, and pain of various origins fills my darkness.

What is it that fills your darkness?

As the seeping continues, I find I have to make a decision. Do I focus on the darkness or do I focus on the light?  Poor-little-old-me parties tauntingly invite me to focus on the darkness and curse it.  Yet, the light offers me rest, healing, and peace through thankfulness.

Friend, it’s all about attitude.

“I realized that the way to attaining joy and rejoicing in my sufferings was to have a heart of thanksgiving.  Through the offering, the sacrifice of thanksgiving, I entered into relationship with God Himself.” (p. 92 Towdah)

Thank God for all He has done and will do for you, even before you see or experience it; trust Him for it all.  That is “Towdah!”

“On May 22, 2011, I sat still and thanked God for my cancer.” (p 93 Towdah)

How could I do that you might ask?

By keeping my eyes on Jesus and seeing Him in all the glory that He is;

He sacrificed His life for mine and He lives, now, to assure me, carry me, and offer me salvation fully.

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16

Friend, THANK the LORD through the trial – no matter what trial it is that has you undone.

“…he who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God.” Psalm 50: 23

Thank God for it all – the good, the bad, and the ugly…and you will be renewed.  You will be shown salvation in the fullest sense!

What is it that fills your darkness?

Turn. Instead, fill it with Thanksgiving and you will unfurl those dark tendrils and

You will be IN the light!

Give Hope: Carry!

Traditions, and everything-as-usual, flies out the window when you are suffering with illness or disease during the holiday season. I should know because I suffered greatly through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter in 2010 & 11.  I am a cancer survivor.

Over the next five days, I want to share with you how you can help ease the sadness and pain of a suffering friend or loved one during this holiday season.  God has equipped you for this good work: you have opportunity to be His hands and feet and give the comfort that is so dearly needed.

“Carry each other’s burden, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2

Illness is  a burden.

Disease is a burden.

Both renders  the one afflicted, weak.

And the one afflicted needs help carrying the weight of the every day life that is suddenly too heavy to carry alone.

What does this mean?

Meet your loved one at their level of  need.  Often times that means making yourself available to do the mundane – the physical load that they are too weak to do.

The laundry, the dishes, the shopping, the meals.  There is no mystery about it.  It is the daily-do’s.

“…we received at least one hundred and four meals,…my hands could not run under cold water or manipulate knives very safely, and as my nausea and fatigue plastered me to the couch more days than I liked, I was blessed by the hands of many, many people who prepared and labored to ensure that my family had good meals to eat.” P.47 Towdah:A Cancer Survivor’s Song of Hope

The simple act of offering a meal had more impact than you might think.

It gave me peace of mind; one less thing for me to think about.

I was able to take that nap I needed.

The burden of meal making was lifted off of me!

Do you know someone who needs a burden carried this holiday season?

Pray.

Consider how God has equipped you to help carry the burden. Be God’s hands and feet.

In this simple act you will fulfill the law of Christ, loving your neighbor as yourself, and give hope to the one who is suffering.

Merry Christmas!

And then…..

What makes something or someone  GREAT?

Is it size?  Is it power?  Is it amount?

I believe it must be all of these and more, especially when you add the person-hood of God in the following of it. There have been a few times that I have truly felt the edge of God’s greatness in my life. Yes, the edge.  The fullness would destroy me and any of us.  One of these few times has been when I awake from sleep. You know those moments when you awake in such a way that you suddenly become conscious of being aware that you have been given another day?  Before your eyes even open, the hearing of your own breath, or the distant noise from inside or outside your home tells you, yes(!) I am still alive! 005

And then,

the first thought you think, is God.

These are moments that I have cherished down deep because it is the down deep that speaks into these very moments about which I am trying to share with you.

Already eyes closed.

 Already surrendered.

All ready.

And the first words falling over my lips were, How great Thou art, how great Thou art.

Awesome completeness filling me.

My mind spurred on:

Oh Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder, Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made…

THEN.

Yes, afterward. THEN my soul sings, considering the awesomeness of who God is and all the things He has made from ant to universe(s) beyond and all the things in between including the care of each hair on my head.

THIS IS GREAT.

This is the edge of how great God is.

Great in size — who can fathom?

Great in power — can anything compare?

Great in amount — what can contain?

The answer is no one, nothing, and absolutely nothing; only God is great!

For me, for you, He did the great things.  All He has made, His Son not sparing, burdens gladly bearing, to take away my sins!  Yes, my souls sings when I am filled with the awesome wonder of it all.  You?  Overflowing with peaceful overwhelming-ness; the flood of praise comes. Then, my eyes open and I am divinely prepared for my day as my feet hit the floor.  When my soul is filled with How great Thou art in the down deep, joy fills and an un-containable appreciation for my God is evident.

THEN,

sings my soul, My Savior, God, to Thee….

My mom shared this link with me this morning – yes, close your eyes and just listen and may these words be your words today; this child’s voice is a blessing!  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=565874703479003
